Project 2: Social Media Meme’s (Racism)

In current society today there has been an emphasis on the freedom of speech and taking a stand in what you believe in. In current news in the media world there has been serious issues involving racism and in particular black lives matter. The seriousness of this topic is very uncomfortable for people, especially if you are labeled as “white.” The use of meme’s in this generation can be used in a way to inform but overall gives people a way to say whats on their mind without being connected to that issue. Here are the examples of racism portrayed by these social media meme’s.

Racism Meme One: https://llwproductions.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/trump-meme-racist-black-president.jpg?w=750

A current topic in society is the presidential candidates and how terrible they are in my opinion. Donald Trump has been on record and has made comments of terms and actions that leads majority of people to believe he is racist in some way. In this particular meme the text in some way or another sounds like something trump would say. The issue with this meme is the comment “one of the blacks.” We all know as a society you don’t label or describe a certain race especially this one as “blacks.” This meme would be considered funny, but points out the issue that one of our presidential candidates portrays.

Racism Meme Two: Knowyourmeme.com (Racism Search)

In this particular meme it tries to use a sense of humor, but takes it a little far but accurate. In the early 1900’s and earlier the African American community was portrayed and society tried there hardest to make connections that African Americans are monkeys. Thats exactly what this meme is trying to illustrate to the general public. We all say we want to stop racism but the reality is that some view African Americans as this image portrays. We should be treated the same but the truth is we are not.

Racism Meme Three: Knowyourmeme.com (Racism Search)

This meme is target to the owner of the LA Clippers, who had made controversial comments towards the African American players. This meme is meant to be a joke because of the fact that Blake Griffin is half black and half white, and the owner had some racial comments. The owner is white and is still the owner of the Clippers. This meme is targeted to a specific audience and thats NBA fans or Clippers fans. They know the issue that had came about and understand the player that Griffin is.

Racism Meme Four: Knowyourmeme.com (Racism Search)

In this fourth meme that illustrates racism in a different view. Again, the current issue at stake is “Black Lives Matter.” They are protesting against cops, particularly white, against violence said to be targeting them specifically. The humor behind this is coming from the “white” side, saying that African Americans are saying that society needs to respect all lives and live like them in a way. The meaning hind this is pointing out that African Americans or a particular group of African Americans are using violent force trying to stop the violence against them. Also deeper points out that parts of their communities are peaceful with gang violence.

Racism Meme Five: Knowyourmeme.com (Racism Search)

This meme involves a famous chief who has a temper and makes a living pretty much of just yelling at people during cookoff’s. The text in this meme talks about a piece of food being so black the police had to arrest it. The issue this brings up is the violence between cops and African Americans. There is an issue that needs to be addressed and thats the power that cops hold, and how they are abusing it based on individuals color of skin.

Racism Meme Six: Knowyourmeme.com (Racism Search)

This meme portrays the obvious ways society stereotypes the African American community. The issue behind this is that these individuals could not be breaking any law, and doesn’t gang bang but by the color of their skin society labels them as thugs and animals. This specific meme is for the general public just to understand that if these were pictures of white people, the labels on the pictures would be completely different.

Racism Meme Seven: Knowyourmeme.com (Racism Search)

This is suppose to be a funny meme, it really doesn’t need word to describe. The joke behind it is that Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t die for this. The statement is to illustrate that white and blacks should be treated equally. It wasn’t for the African Americans to have the freedom to be racist and hate the whites back because they have the ability to. He wanted everybody to love each other and have the same opportunities.

Racism Meme Eight: Memegenerator.com (Racism Search)

This meme illustrates the counter argument that the “white” individuals say when counter arguing the Black Lives Matter movement. The issue that they want the killing to stop, but their own kind seem to have issues with that with themselves when dealing with gang’s in communities. The racism or stereotyping goes deep because of the history. This attended audience is towards the majority of the population and the thoughts that we all have had.

Racism Meme Nine: Memegenerator.com (Racism Search)

This meme uses strong language to get the point across of the thought process to individuals in society. There are individuals that say what they want others to believe or they even want to believe, but then when there is frustration or when there behind close doors the truth comes out. Even the power behind words are pointed out in these particular meme. As we gone over in class, our generations are changing and the way we use and view ideas throughout social media and just everyday life. I can say that I use the word “faggot” occasionally just to tell my friends they are stupid. I know the meaning behind the word to some but for my generation these meanings are losing the hate hind it in my opinion.

Racism Meme Ten: Memegenerator.com (Racism Search)

In this particular meme I am going to go a little personal. But before hand this meme illustrates to the general public the issues at hand. The African American community can pretty much say anything they want about the “white” people and nothing ill happen and they are usually honored in a way about it. If it was the other way around the whites are labeled as racist and their public image will be affected for a long time. I am frustrated by this because I had an incident in high school that had this same issue. One of my good friends who is African American was talking a crap tone about he as a baseball player as we were warming up for a game and he called me a cracker, now to me thats the same as if I said the “nigger.” I got super heated and retaliated with the same type of word that he used and that was “nigger.” But again it being okay for him to say that to me and not for me I got yelled and threatened by his dad who was also one of my baseball coach’s. This is the issue that I have with this whole Black Lives Matter movement and racism, is yes it does exist and it shouldn’t. In no way am I racist and I believe everybody should have the same opportunities but if one race can get away with certain comment discriminating the other then you better believe the other should as well.

Social Media

Social media can be positive place to vent yourself and show off your talents to millions around the world. Yet again it also can he someones negative place. For a while others including me would have a competition to see who had the most followers on Twitter and Instagram, of coarse you can already see the drama. I believe social media can create change and a place where people can be themselves. As for me and probably others I have three different worlds, the top social media applications I use are Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. When I began to look at my post on Instagram I began to notice how much I appreciate others around me. I am a people oriented and I absolutely love being with a group of people or one on one with people that are really close to my heart and you can tell that by my Instagram. The second social media that I use the most is snapchat. Now snapchat is a completely different world, I block the people that I know would not approve of some of the lifestyle choices that I make. I have created snapchat to be the social media that I can be completely free know matter what the situation is, ANYTHING GOES as long as its funny. On my snapchat stories/snaps I push the funny card of all occasions. If its making fun of someone, making fun of myself, doing something illegal, or representing my Cougs it will all end up on snapchat. The third social media that I use the most is Twitter. Twitter is a place for subtweeting! haha i absolutely love subtweeting because if they comment or text me “its about to go down!” (Kevin Hart Voice) I watch carefully what I post on twitter because of how quickly people can follow and see who you are. The language I use is fairly clean and the pictures I use are clean as well. I am beginning to think and post strategically because of the career I want to go into. I want to be on the public relations team for a professional sport (hopefully basketball) focused on the social media aspect of it. If you think about it, who is going to hire a person to control the face of your organization if they can’t even control their own social media. Thats the idea that I have in the back of my head when I post on Instagram and Twitter, but not for snapchat.

Running with Rifles

this post was about my experience playing the game Running With Rifles. I personally felt unconnected to the game, because it was a demo it didn’t give me a lot of options to customize the characters or to ensure that there were enemies. You run around and shoot using your mouse, but the reaction time is very slow. Holding down the mouse enables you too shoot. You can’t really go far within the map, only around the perimeter. There were no enemies until later on but it won’t show for whatever reason. Anyways, the game wasn’t that good.
