Emojis IRL

This series of photos was designed for the prompt, “Emojis IRL”, where I took three photos of my roommate and imitated the featured emojis. I took the photos is succession , where the animated emoji girl and my roommate progress from shy to intrigued/surprised to flippant. I put them in this order to go from shy and most introverted to progressively extroverted.

Design an Invoice

This invoice was designed and inspired from the book Fight Club. My invoice is from Bloomingdale’s, buying the fancy soaps made and sold by Tyler Durden and his posse. I chose this story and designed the invoice from Bloomingdale’s, since I thought theirs might have more official style - and I doubt Tyler Durden would send invoices or receipts. My design is elegant and sleek with not a lot of information cluttering around.

Short story with random words and animal(s)

For this post I had to visit a random word generator, and create a story from 10 random generated words. Here was my haul:

Heartsick, guzzling, hide, midnight, flap, dolphin, annoying, plaything, emperor, federation

The annoying dolphin was heartsick, guzzling beer to hide his sorrows from the other dolphins. He knew he had to make it to the dolphin federation before midnight if the emperor was to let him see his bride before she would disappear behind the royal flap, and just become another one of his playthings. He needed a pan, how could he save her?

An album cover

This blog post takes random elements outlined in the prompt and challenges artists to create an album cover for their new band. This cover was chosen at random from flickr, and I added the green text with the name of the band, and the album name (which were picked also at random, and frankly don’t make much sense). I chose to use green text because I thought it was easiest to read with the busy black and white background, it was difficult to find text and color that showed up well and was still readable.

What’s in your bag?

This assignment, “What’s in your bag?” called for the contents of my bag, and apparently I have lots of things. In the photograph I have taken you can see what I have in my purse, in a way similarly to the example given in the prompt. So, here is my list: wallet, keys, hairbands, mini flashlight, carmex, matches, perfume, nail file, air freshener (square), stickers, deodorant, flash drive, aquaphor, lipstick, nail polish, Kleenex, air freshener (canister). Mostly this prompt made me think little at first, but really I could glean that I carry around a lot of small mostly meaningless things daily. Some things are necessary, like my keys, wallet – but so many other things are not really necessary, I can only say they are easy to store/hold conveniently in my bag as my defense. This assignment was effective in making me question why I carry some of the things that I do, and almost everywhere at that. Most of my trinkets are related to hygienics and regimen, allowing my purse to equip me more easily for on-the-go travel. Personally I do see how an assignment matters, and the possible thinking it can cause students to have about their daily practices that contribute to their ‘footprint’ – is everything in the footprint you leave necessary? What part of our culture changes the way we view these attachments making them normative?
